Watson-Manning will now get to travel to Niagara Falls from the Orlando Sanford International Airport during Memorial Day weekend as part of her prize package. The round-trip airfare was donated to the city by Allegiant Air.
Three judges read through 32 entries and selected three finalists. The judges were, Greater Regional Sanford Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Frank Hale, Seminole County Library Services Assistant North Branch Manager Lynne Smith and Seminole State College Read to Succeed QEP Academic Services Director Carissa Baker, M.A.
The three poems were then posted anonymously to the City’s Facebook page as poems A, B, and C. The poem that received the most Facebook “likes” was the winner.
The winning poem with the most likes on Facebook was written by Chassidy Watson-Manning titled “I Love Sanford, Florida:"
Whispers of home, Sanford… are heard when nestled on the banks of Lake Monroe, spoke from the crisp winds, blessed by the sweet glistened ripples from which many have played and gone,
Paths of variance are welcomed when downtown is reached, gentle flutters from the seasoned cobble and diversified aromas of culinary perfection bring smiles of sweet familiar relief,
Birds sing tunes of American dreams that caress the soul, upon the peaks of white pickets which hug vintage cottages on shaded paths,
The hum of laughter, the patter of little feet, heard at Fort Mellon Park create a rhythm of the heart, accompanied by the lyrical mind which chimes, I LOVE SANFORD, FLORIDA”
All three finalists have been invited to attend the April 14, 7 p.m. City Commission Meeting at City Hall to read their poems aloud and to be presented with their prizes. All the poems entered in the contest will be featured in the City’s future promotional materials.
The three finalists and their poems are listed on the City’s website www.Sanfordfl.gov under “About Sanford.”
