Christopher Bell, a FAMU Class of ’99 graduate and a member of the university’s “Marching 100,” announces the formation of the Central Florida Drum Line.

Bell gained local notoriety while teaching music at Hamilton Elementary, where he formed the “Hamilton Drum Line.” The group of third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students dazzled audiences as they performed at Orlando Magic basketball games, Disney World, Crimeline conventions with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department, Lake Mary High School annual step shows, Seminole County School Board, SCC basketball halftimes and many other community events.

Bell’s desire is to work with kids and share with them the joy that music has given to him. Through music, he hopes to help children hear their own individual drum as they march to the right beat keeping them off the streets.

Due to an overwhelming community support and request, Bell was asked to make the drum line available to other youth in Central Florida. The line will consist of students from Seminole, Orange, Osceola, Lake and Volusia counties, ages 10-17, who are invited to “get off the couch,” pick up your sticks and join the “line.” No experience is necessary. The drum line will teach basic, intermediate and advanced drumming on the snare drum, quads, bass drum and cymbals. For details, contact Bell at 407-417-2974.
