SANFORD — There was a 50th birthday celebration for a lady of God, a woman of wisdom, a woman who is admired by her dedicated loving husband, children, family, a Christian leader, this God blessed lady is a virtuous woman, the first lady of Morning Glory Missionary Baptist Church where she serves as president of the Mission Women of Glory, Youth Usher Board advisor and a Youth Department secretary/treasurer. This lady is Sister Dorothy Mae Dukes Blake, lovable wife of the Rev. Jimmie Blake and the daughter of Ruby Dukes and the late Richmond Dukes, Jr. of Lake County.
This woman of God celebrated her over-the-hill years with an evening to be remembered for birthdays to come. Over 200 family and friends helped her enjoy the evening’s celebration.
After a fellowship and social hour, guests gathered in the banquet hall of the Spirit of Truth Ministry.
Beautifully decorated in purple, white and gold, the room was indeed giving the air of a special celebration for the first lady, Dorothy Blake. As she entered the room, she was welcomed by her guests with a verse of Happy Birthday.
Toastmasters for the occasion were the lovely husband and wife team of Raymond and Linda Gaines, who served the evening of celebration well.
Terry Robinson gave the invocation and blessing of the dinner meal.
Guests were made to feel welcomed as Todd Smith extended greetings to the guests, with Sylvia Robinson giving the occasion. The honoree and guests were blessed with the rendition of “I Believe” by the dynamic soloist Cynthia Blake Wilkins, sister-in-law of the honoree.
“Youth in Motion” was presented and entertained the guests and honoree with two spirit filled praise dances to the selections “Worship the King” and “Presents of the Lord is Here”.
The dinner was served by the extraordinaire chef Ernest Culbeth and his staff. A delicious meal was enjoyed by all.
“Dorothy Down through the Years” was shown with a brief memory for the honoree.
Sister Lula’s comedy act entertained the audience and reminded Dorothy of the many activities of change that will take place since she has gone over-the-hill. Life really takes on a great change when you get to age five-O said Sister Lula.
Reflections were given on the life of the 50th Club, all information and historical facts coming from those who had known her from birth to now, her loving sisters Mary, Betty, Cathy, Rose, Cynthia and Sylvia.
The closing Praise Dance performance was rendered by the “Pearson Sisters”.
“Happy Birthday Mom” reminded of the years growing up with a mother who always shoed great love and devoted care for her three children, Felicia, Marcus and Charna.
The honoree continued to be blessed with an evening of praise and thanksgiving to her God for His goodness to her over the years. Minister Marlow Smith blessed the spirit filled audience with the rendition of a special dedication of the song, “You Been Good, Yes Lord, You’ve Been Good,”
A musical toast was made to honoree Blake by her loving husband of 18 years, Pastor Jimmie L. Blake, who sang to his lovely wife, “You are So Beautiful to Me”, he told of their love and devotion they have for one another. At the close, honoree Dorothy Blake received a standing ovation as she rose to say words of thanks to her darling husband, who God has blessed with her, thanks to her family, friends, church members, and co-workers for the love shared with her on this, her 50th celebration birthday.
For several hours, it seemed that the Spirit of Truth Ministries Banquet Hall was transformed into a place of worship. There was a sweet, sweet spirit in the place.
