David Cuciuc is a Junior at Crooms Academy. He is a proud member of the National Honor Society and enjoys helping others through school projects and activities.

Last year, I had the opportunity to be part of a nice project with the National Honor Society (NHS) at Crooms. Our goal with the project was to raise money to help a former Crooms student who had been injured in a car accident. From this project I learned important lessons about how to work with my team, how to organize objects and how to help others.

Me and my group started the project by bringing items like toys, books, clothes, and kitchen supplies and put them in Ms. Moon’s class. After some weeks, we brought donations from our families and friends. After we had collected enough items, we cleaned them and organized them by categories, then put them in boxes that we brought to the cafeteria later on.. Once all the boxes were collected, during a Friday after school we met in the cafeteria to take everything out of the boxes to sort and prepare the items for the fundraiser.

I learned how to clean and organize the donated items, making sure everything looked clean and ready to sell. We worked together to group similar items and put them into boxes to keep things organized. We had to be patient with this project because there were a lot of items that needed to be organized, but in the end it was really nice to see that we managed to organize everything in boxes on time.

On the day of the fundraiser which was during a Saturday we set up tables in the cafeteria and took the items out of the boxes and we placed them on the tables. Everyone had a role. Some of us welcomed customers, others managed sales, and a few ensured that people knew where each type of item was located. That day was pretty busy but it was also exciting!

By the end of the day, we raised $1,000 for the injured former student. Knowing that our hard work would help someone in pain made the experience unforgettable. During this fundraiser I also learned new skills, like working in a team, staying organized, and communicating with others.

This project reminded me of how important it is to support other people in our community. It also showed me how much you can do when people come together for a good cause. Being part of the National Honor Society and this fundraiser was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.
