Goodwill Employee, Geovan Acosta honored with Leadership Award

Goodwill Employee, Geovan Acosta honored with Leadership Award

Special to the Herald

Goodwill Industries of Central Florida recently recognized eight employees for their hard work. During the organization’s annual leadership conference last month, leaders presented Geovan Acosta with the “Goodwill Achiever of the Year” award for the professional growth he’s made since starting as a part-time cashier four years ago. Today as the team member in charge of opening and closing operations at the Downtown Sanford location, Geo’s goal is to become a store manager so he can train others looking to advance their own careers.

The start of the new year is a time to reflect on the past and how to charge forward toward self improvement. It’s why I want to share the story of a Central Florida man who has made it his mission to better himself and the lives of those around him.

Geovan Acosta struggled to find a job after serving in the military, but that difficult search came to an end when a family member who worked at Goodwill Industries of Central Florida (GICF) told him about the organization. Identifying with the mission of helping others, Geo applied and rose from a part-time cashier position to being a key holder at the Downtown Sanford location in just four years.
