UCF women’s basketball stifled at Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — The UCF women’s basketball team (8-14, 1-11 Big 12) was stifled by Utah (18-5, 9-3) Saturday afternoon in the John M. Huntsman Center by a final score of 95-51.

Utah started the day off with a three-pointer, a trend that continued throughout the remainder of the game as the Utes went 16-for-33 from beyond the arc, and used multiple scoring runs to end the first quarter with a 12-point advantage, 27-15.

The hosts continued their scoring ways, tallying 16 points in the second quarter. The Black and Gold were unable to string together points to take a cut at the Utes’ lead as the teams headed into the half with Utah up 43-28. Kaitlin Peterson went 3-for-7 from the field and added a three-pointer to score seven points in the quarter.

UCF came out of the locker room and struggled to make shots from the field going 3-of-16, which helped the Utes continue their momentum as they ended the third quarter with an 8-0 spurt and a 68-36 advantage.

The Knights went on a scoring drought in the middle of the fourth as Utah continued to pile on the points with a 15-0 run on the way to the 95-51 victory.

The guard duo of Peterson and Nevaeh Brown each recorded double digits with 17 and 11, respectively. Mahogany Chandler-Roberts notched a career-high 10 rebounds on the day. Brown dished out three assists to mark the 10th time she has led the team in assists this season.
