VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARK

   Volusia Speedway Park in DeLeon Springs/Barberville is hosting the “Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals”.

   Here is the schedule:

   Week 3 (Feb. 10-Feb. 15): World of Outlaws Late Models, DIRTcar Late Models, Super DIRTcar Series, USAC Non-Wing Sprint Cars.

   The daily schedule has the gates opening at 3 p.m. and racing beginning at 5:30 p.m. with Hot Laps.

   The track is located at 1500 East State Road 40 in DeLeon Springs. Take either FL-11 North or Highway-17 out of DeLand and go to SR-40 and turn left (West) if using 11 or right (East) if using 17.

 

NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY

   New Smyrna Speedway is hosting the 2025 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing through Saturday, February 15.

   Here is the schedule:

   Today (Wednesday) _ Hart to Heart Hoosier Pro Late Models (100 laps), 602 Modifieds (25 laps), David Rogers Super Late Models (35 laps), Tour Modifieds John Blewett III Memorial (76 laps).

   Thursday _ David Rogers Super Late Model Orange Blossom 100, 602 Modifieds (66 laps), Tour Modified (50 laps), Hoosier Pro Late Model (35 laps).

   Friday _ Richie Evans Memorial Tour Modified 100-lapper, Mod Minis (35 laps), Black Jack Seal Coating Bomber A (35 laps), Florida Southern Ground Pounder (20 laps).

   Coming up at Orlando Speed World Dragway:

   * Today: Wheels Up Wednesday _ “All Welcome Test and Tune and Grudge Racing” with gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing from 6 p.m.-to-10:30 p.m. $20 General Admission or $30 to race.

   * Thursday _ Bike Night. Test and Tune night for motorcycles only the second Thursday of every month. Gates open at 6 p.m. and lanes close at 10:30 p.m. General admission, $20; Racer and Tech Card, $30; Kids under 10 years old get in FREE.

   * Full Throttle Friday _ “All Welcome Test and Tune and Grudge Racing”, plus a Quick-8 Shootout with gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing from 6 p.m.-to-10:30 p.m. $20 General Admission or $30 to race. Kids 10-and-Under free.

SANFORD ADULT SOFTBALL

   Here is this week’s schedule in the City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department Adult Softball Polar Bear League.

   The Semi-Co-Ed/Fun League on Wednesday has Fusion playing a doubleheader against Throwbacks at 6:30 p.m. and Pat’s Liquor at 7:30 p.m. The West End Trading Company will challenge Wet Spot at 8:30 p.m.

   Everyone is invited to watch the games for free at Pinehurst Park on West 24th Street.

STETSON WOMEN

   Tyra Myers hit a game-tying 3-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation, sending the game to overtime, and then put the Stetson women's basketball team ahead for good with a clutch basket at 1:02 in the extra period, lifting the Hatters to an 87-84 victory over Bellarmine on the road Saturday afternoon. The win allowed Stetson to split the season series with the Knights and leave the Bluegrass State with a victory.

   Stetson improved to 13-11 on the season and 7-5 in ASUN play. Four Hatters scored in double figures, led by Mary McMillan with 19 points and four assists. Cameron Thomas added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Diawna Carter-Hartley contributed 14 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Shelby Calhoun, a Louisville native, recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

   Stetson had come up short on Thursday night, falling to the EKU Colonels 77-70 on the road, splitting the season series.

   The Hatters had four players score in double figures, led by Carter-Hartley, who recorded her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. It was also her fourth consecutive game with 10+ boards.

   Shelby Calhoun tied her season-high with 13 points for the second straight game, adding seven rebounds. Thomas and McMillan both provided 11 points as well.

   Up Next:

   The Hatters now return home to Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center, where they hold a 10-2 record. They will host the Jacksonville Dolphins tonight (Wednesday) with a 7 p.m. tip-off. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

 

STETSON MEN

   The Stetson men's basketball team (7-18, 5-7 ASUN) got a solid 42-point contribution from its bench but ultimately fell 83-58 to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center on Saturday.

   The Hatters had three players in double figures, led by Mehki Ellison with 15 points. Jordan Wood contributed 11 points and two steals off the bench, while Jamie Phillips Jr. also added 11 points as a reserve. Treyton Thompson led the team in rebounds with eight and also recorded a block.

   Despite a strong performance from Thompson, who grabbed 10 rebounds, Stetson had also lost to the Jacksonville Dolphins 74-65 at home on Thursday.

   Josh Massey led Stetson with 16 points, while Ellison added 12 points and Wood contributed 13 points to round out the team's double-digit scorers.

   Up Next:

   The Hatters will now head to Nashville, Tennessee, for a matchup against Lipscomb at on Thursday at Allen Arena at 8:15 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

 

SSC BASEBALL

   The Seminole State College of Florida baseball team (6-4) went 1-2 in Palatka during the Capital City Bank Classic at St. Johns River State College, outscoring Florence-Darlington Technical College (South Carolina), 16-14, on Friday to extend its winning streak to five games, but then dropped games to East Georgia State College, 12-7, on Saturday and host SJRSC, 2-1, on Sunday.

   The locals were to have traveled to Daytona Beach on Tuesday for a game with Daytona State College and will open Citrus Conference play with State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota visiting Jack Pantelias Field on Thursday at 2 p.m.

SSC SOFTBALL

   The Seminole State College of Florida softball team (6-0) traveled to Avon Park on Thursday for a doubleheader with South Florida State College and will return Sanford for three doubleheaders beginning Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Cleveland State University (Ohio). On Thursday, St. Johns River Community College will be at Courtney Miller Field at 1 p.m. and on Saturday (Feb. 15) South Florida State College will challenge the Raiders at noon.

UCF BASEBALL

   UCF baseball’s inaugural season as both a member of the Big 12 conference and under the leadership of head coach Rich Wallace was one that saw the program reach heights it hadn’t seen in years. As a result, the Knights enter the 2025 season with a lot of excitement and expectations.

   UCF finished the 2024 campaign at 37-21 and 14-15 in the conference play and also made its first NCAA tournament berth since 2017. The team was selected to play in the Tallahassee Regional, where they would defeat both Alabama and Stetson to make the final, before falling to an eighth-ranked Florida State team who would go on to make the College World Series. In all, UCF posted a 19-3 record in non-conference play in 2024, which included an 11-1 midweek record and a 14-4 clip against Sunshine State opponents.

   A total of six Knights earned all-conference accolades a season ago. Of the group, UCF welcomes back Matt Prevesk (senior outfielder), Lex Boedicker (senior infielder), redshirt junior infielder Braden Calise, senior catcher Andrew Sundean and sophomore outfielder Andrew Williamson.

   On the mound, the Knights welcome back returning starter and member of the 2024 All-Big 12 Conference Second Team Dom Stagliano (RHP, 3-4, 4.10 ERA, 66 SO) as well as a top bullpen arm and 2024 ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region member Dominic Castellano (LHP, 7-0, 2.83 ERA, 3 SV, 68 SO). A number of other key contributors from are also back this year in returning starter Wiley Hartley, closer Kris Sosnowski, reliever Spencer Bauer and fellow reliever Alex Galvan.

   UCF welcomes 27 newcomers _ 19 transfers and eight freshmen.

   Year two of the Wallace and Big 12 era will begin on Friday when the Knights welcome Siena to town for the first a three-game series starting at 6:30 p.m. at John Euliano Park.

   Games two will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and the final game is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
