Sanford Police Department Hosts Golf Cart Registration Event

Sanford Police Department Hosts Golf Cart Registration Event

On Saturday, Feb. 8, the Sanford Police Depart ment invites local residents to attend its annual Golf Cart Registration Event and get their ducks in a row before hitting the road in the Golf Cart Zone.

The event, which is being held from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 401 E Seminole Blvd in Sanford, plays a key role in ensuring compliance with Sanford’s Golf Cart Ordinance, which lays out regulations to make sure all golf cart owners can legally and safely operate their vehicles with the correct lighting and signage on the streets designated by the ordinance - also known as the Golf Cart Zone.

“The Golf Cart Ordinance is a great addition to the City of Sanford,” said Sanford PD employee Michael Hernandez. “[It] allows citizens to enjoy our beautiful city from the convenience of their golf cart.”

The Golf Cart Ordinance is available in full through the city’s municipal code here: https://li brary.municode.com/fl/sanford/codes/code_of_or dinances?nodeId=PTIICOOR_CH94STSIOTPUPL_A RTIVUSGOCAUPDERO_S94-133AUUSGOCAROST.

This year, the Sanford Police Department is host ing the Golf Cart Registration Event to try and streamline the registration process. The goal of the event, according to Hernandez, is to make sure that “officials verify that golf carts meet safety standards, owners understand operational guidelines, and community safety is maintained” through inspection and registration.

Anyone interested in registering their golf cart at the event will need to bring $25.00 to cover the regis tration fee, a valid driver’s license, their golf cart’s information, and the golf cart itself, along with any questions they may have for the registration offi cials. Once the required paperwork is completed, an officer will inspect the golf cart to make sure it has the correct windshield, turning lights, brakelights, and headlights, among other things. After the in spection is complete, you’ll be given a golf cart map and a newly-redesigned registration sticker courtesy of the Sanford PD.

For those unable to attend the event, golf carts can also be registered through City Hall at 300 N. Park Ave in Sanford starting Feb. 1. If your golf cart is not registered by Feb. 9 when registration enforcement begins, penalties include a fine of $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense, and $300 for the third offense.
