DeBary City Commission Meeting Recap

In Wednesday’s regular city council meeting, the DeBary council opened the first meeting of February with public participation of items not listed on the agenda before proceeding with the consent agenda items. Bonnie Beil, DeBary local, represented Not Their Fault Feline Foundation along with DeBary’s ongoing efforts with the De Bary Trap Neuter Return program.

Beil explained that the city is leading the way with TNR programs and that her team has suc cessfully spayed and neutered over 150 commu nity cats resulting in a long-term reduction in the stray cat population. Beil also expressed grati tude towards the City of DeBary for providing microchip scanners allowing for the reunion of lost cats with their families.

Among the approved consent agenda was the City Manager’s request that the City Council ap prove the revision of the Seller Entity from WW2Armor NFP, Inc. to House of Ben Avraham, LLC regarding the Memorial Park Tank Purchase and the request of the City Council to authorize the City Manager to execute the Kimley-Horn Contract, Individual Project Order No.22, to maintain the existing City’s GIS platform.

The public hearings included and approved the request of the City Council approving Resolu tion No. 2025-01, a resolution to vacate an un paved platted right-of-way between Lots five and six of Plantation Estates, Unit 35.

The request made by the City Manager for the approval of the Engagement Letter and Agree ment with Becker & Poliakoff, P.A. for federal grant writing and guidance was approved.

Mayor Karen Chasez said that she thinks this is a good investment, it’s not a high dollar invest ment but the payoff even just through one grant would push DeBary ahead.

“It really does distinguish DeBary from some of the other cities that haven’t figured out how to make those connections yet,” said Chasez. “We have benefited in the past from thinking outside of the box on these matters and I have every con fidence that going forward, this relationship will provide the same positive result for us."
