Just a few days ago, Donald Trump was cozying up to his old friend, Vladimir Putin. He and his entourage were saying bad things about Ukraine and its leader. Putin got excited and was dreaming of dollars and more dollars coming to Russia to help bail out his regime, McDonalds would be back and maybe even Chick-fil-A.
What happened? The Donald, after threatening to take all of Ukraine's natural resources and then some, as payment for our help in their battle for their lives against the Russians, made nice and now says we are going to help Ukraine develop the resources and recover from the beating it has taken at Putin's hands. (Or words to that effect)
If only Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, our esteemed head diplomat, had been able to visit Henry Kissinger in his nursing home, Kissinger would have suggested Rubio needed to re-read Dale Carnegie. Use words like "esteemed", "honorable" and "valiant". Maybe even bring out an honor guard to welcome a head of state.
We will see what happens. In a day or so, Zelensky is supposed to visit Washington to sign the resources deal. Will he be addressed as "Snake" or "Dictator" or "only supported by 4% of his countrymen"? Probably not until the ink is dry on the signature page.
