The Hagerty High School boys wrestling team rolled to the Class 3A-Region 1 Championship at Lake Mary High School on Saturday to highlight a good week for local male matmen.
The Huskies scored 190.5 points, with nine competitors earning spots in the State Meet, to east past Flagler Palm Coast (158) and Gainesville-Buchholz (128.5), while the host Rams (92.5) were seventh, Oviedo (70.5) was 10th, Lake Brantley (40) was 14th, Lake Howell (7) was 29th and Seminole (3) tied for 32nd.
Hagerty had Chase Wolgamuth (108) and Nikolas Blake (152) win Individual Regional Championships, as did Lake Brantley’s Dario Duany (134) and Lake Mary’s Gavin Isaacs (192), while the Huskies’ Hunter Jessee (128) and Lake Mary’s Grady Isaacs (217) were Regional Runner-Ups.
Finishing third were Damonyai White (Lake Mary, 115) and Thomas Thorne (Hagerty, 192) and fourth place finishers were Josh Sabbia (115) and Micah Thorpe (287) from Oviedo and James Zena (140), Ben Wolgamuth (146), Josue Batista (159), Aiden Wood (167) and Jude DiCicco (217) for the Huskies.

In Class 2A-Region 1 at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Winter Springs (124) placed fourth and will be represented at State by Runner-Up Rudley Villareal (134), Third Place finishers Zavian Chaves (122), Cayden Torres (140) and Jacob Rodriguez (192) and fourth-place finishing Trenton Smith (115).
In Class 2A-Region 2 at Brandon High School, Lyman (81.5) was fifth led by runners-up Cameron Popeck (152), third place finishing Jamie Taylor (115) and fourth place finishing Angel Ortiz-Corral (167).
The FHSAA IBT (Individual) State Finals are tomorrow (Thursday)-thru-Saturday, March 6-8, at Silver Spurs Arena in the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee.
