UCF BASEBALL

The UCF baseball team (8-3) got a wake-up call in Friday, getting Run-Ruled by homesteading South Florida (6-3), 13-3, in seven innings Friday night in Tampa.

But the Knights responded in a big way, returning the Run Rule _ twice _ 12-1 and 12-2, both in seven innings, on Saturday and Sunday.

In breaking a 3-game losing streak on Saturday, Andrew Williamson hit a two-run home run and Antonio Jimenez followed with a grand slam in a 6-run top of the first inning outburst.

Jimenez led the Knights offensively by going 3-for-4 with five RBI. Lex Boedicker was next by going 2-for-3 with four runs batted in and two runs scored, while Edian Espinal and Chase Krewson added two hits apiece.

Black and Gold starter Wiley Hartley also pitched well on the day, as he allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five over 6.0 innings. The 6.0 innings of work tied a career-long for Hartley.

The team hit out a trio of home runs and limited South Florida to just two runs on the day to claim the weekend series Sunday afternoon at USF Baseball Stadium.

Dylan King, Espinal and Boedicker all homered, while Grant Siegel, Dominic Castellano and Kris Sosnowski combined to allow just two runs from the mound.

Six different Knights finished with multiple hits. Williamson and DeAmez Ross both recorded three hits, and Williamson led the way by going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored. Espinal, Rivera, King and Krewson all added two hits, while Espinal, King and Boedicker each drove in three runs.

In all, UCF totaled 15 hits on the day and outhit USF 28-11 as well as outscoring its rivals 24-3 over the last two ballgames.

   Next Up:

The Knights are back in Orlando and opened on five-game homestand against No. 6 Florida on Tuesday. UCF SOFTBALL

The UCF softball team mounted a late rally, but the squad dropped its non-conference finale to the Georgia Southern Eagles, 4-1, at the UCF Softball Complex Sunday afternoon.

Despite the defeat, UCF still produced an encouraging 5-1 record (4-1 in the Charge On Classic) over its last week of play, including a shutout of the No. 22 Florida Atlantic Owls on the road Wednesday evening. The Knights also posted shutout wins over James Madison (8-0, 5-innings), Providence (7-0) and North Florida (6-0) in the Classic and with wins in five of their last six contests, the Black and Gold now enter Big 12 Conference play at 17-7-1.

The Knights’ 17 wins through their first 25 games are their most through the first 25 contests of a season since the 2022 Knights went 17-7 through their first 24 games en route to the first NCAA Super Regional berth in program history.

“This whole month has been a learning experience,” said head coach Cindy Ball-Malone. “Even for some of our seniors and veterans, they’re in roles that may be unfamiliar to them. It’s the game within the game, there are some small things that we need to learn and make adjustments on.”

   Up Next:

The Knights begin Big 12 Conference play with a three-game series in Tucson, Arizona, against the No. 7 Arizona Wildcats Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Start times are set for 8 p.m., 6 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, and all games will be streamed on ESPN+.
