City of DeBary Establishes Nonprofit Foundation to Enhance Community Initiatives

Special to the Herald

The City of DeBary announced the formation of the DeBary Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing local programs, civic projects, and community development efforts, at its March 5 meeting.  At the same time, the Council appointed Jim Old, a DeBary resident instrumental in drafting the foundation start up documents, as its first Board Chair.

The DeBary Community Foundation will serve as a separate, independent entity focused on securing philanthropic donations, grants, and sponsorships to support public programs and services that benefit residents. Through partnerships with local businesses, civic organizations, and individual donors, the foundation aims to fund projects related to parks and recreation, arts and culture, environmental conservation, and other community-driven initiatives.

“We are excited to launch the DeBary Community Foundation as a way to expand and enhance the programs and services that make our city a wonderful place to live,” said Karen Chasez, Mayor of DeBary.

The foundation will be governed by an independent board of directors comprising local leaders, business representatives, and community members who will oversee its strategic direction and financial stewardship.

“The foundation will provide opportunities for community members and organizations to contribute to meaningful projects directly benefiting our residents” stated Board Chair Jim Old.  “I look forward to working with the Board, residents, and city staff as we collaborate on exciting projects that reflect our community vision.”

In the coming months, the foundation will be seeking board members and launch its initial fundraising campaigns and priority projects. Information about the foundation will be available on the City’s website in the next few weeks.
