SANFORD — It was quite a week for the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA) as the annual Southern Challenge drew a large crowd to the 2-day event and then 10 boats took to the water to compete in the weekly Malibu Rum Race last Wednesday.
Four different classes ran four races each over the two day (March 15 and 16) Southern Challenge which saw heavy winds, especially on Saturday, create interesting moments for the competitors.
This past Wednesday (March 19) its was Rich Gailey and crew aboard Wicklow Way easing their way to victory in the weekly Malibu Rum Race to win the overall race and Displacement Boat Class over a new UV 20, piloted by Ray Laguna and Show Me, under the guiding hand of Andy Forrest.
