Musical Nationalism 

Friday, April 4, 7 p.m., 2021 W. State Road 426, Oviedo. Come celebrate "Musical Nationalism--sharing our musical identities" with the Orlando Concert Band, hosted by the St. Luke's Concert Series. We will feature the music of Franz Strauss, Jean Sibelius, Gioachino Rossini,  Morton Gould, and others. All concerts are free and seating is open. Spring Foraging Hike

Saturday, April 5, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Geneva Wilderness Area (off Osceola Rd.) in Geneva. Hike in search of edible & useful wild plants. Learn to identify common edibles in your community. All British Car Show

Saturday, April 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Henry’s Depot, Sanford. This event features all classes of British automobiles, including MGs, Austin-Healeys, Triumphs, Jaguars, Minis; Lotus’; Rolls Royces and more.

 

Owl Prowl

Saturday, April 5, 7 to 9 p.m., Lake Proctor Wilderness Area (off Osceola Rd.) in Geneva. Explore the park after dark in search of owls. Identify owls by sight & hoots. Dulcimer Gathering

Sunday, April 6, 1 p.m., Rural Heritage Center, 101 E. Main St., Geneva. Try out one of our mountain dulcimers to see if you would like to learn or bring your own dulcimer & learn to play it. A dulcimer is one of the easiest instruments to learn to play. Genealogy Fair

Sunday, April 6, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., North Branch Library, 150 N. Palmetto Avenue, Sanford. Come learn about genealogy, from our experts and each other, in collaboration with the Sanford Genealogy Club. All experience levels are welcome. Registration is only required if attending through Microsoft Teams. The virtual link provided at registration and emailed one day before event. Library card required to register. Free. Blackout Poetry

Tuesday, April 8, 5:30 p.m., North Branch Library, 150 N. Palmetto Avenue, Sanford. April is National Poetry Month. Blackout poetry is a low pressure, accessible writing exercise. Grab a marker, and a newspaper or unwanted book, and get ready to find a poem of your own not by writing words, but by erasing them. Supplies provided. Free. For adults.

 

Central Florida Spokes Luncheon

 Wednesday, April 9, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Heathrow Country Club. $32 cash or check. Flamingo Bingo fundraiser. Tertulia Cuatro Gatos

Museum of Geneva 

History

Sundays, April 13 & 27, 2 to 4 p.m., 165 1st St., Geneva or by appointment 407-349-5697. Admission free, but donations appreciated. 2 large rooms full of  local archaeological finds, pioneer crafts, Ft. Lane search team finds, family genealogical records, Civil War info., and a violano & Edison cylinder player (both play). Learn about the story of Geneva and the Lincoln Conspiracy. Buy T-shirts, caps, prints, and history books. Good for a group or individuals.

 

Fish Winter Springs

Registration opens April 14, 8 a.m. Event is Saturday, May 3, 7 to 9 a.m., Central Winds Park, Winter Springs. Enjoy a morning of fishing fun with the family. Bring your child to experience the leisure of fishing and learn how to cast, bait the hook & the safety of outdoors. 

 

Newcomers Spring  Fashion Show/Luncheon

Thursday, April 17, 11:30 a.m., Heathrow Country Club, 1200 Bridgewater Drive, in Lake Mary. Newcomers of Central Florida will host its annual spring fashion show luncheon. Newcomers members serve as models & stroll the venue while wearing a variety of the latest spring styles and accessories from Dillard's department store in Oviedo. Dillard's Ready-to-Wear Sales Manager Kierstin Balbi will be on hand at the luncheon to provide expert commentary and styling tips for the "By the Beautiful Sea"-themed event. Festive atmosphere, luncheon tables will feature eye-catching nautical centerpieces, given away as door prizes. Sweet candy treats for all attendees. Luncheon tickets are priced at $30.
