SANFORD — The City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department and Central Florida Soap Box Derby held its final Rally Derby of the 2024-2025 season _ the March 2-Day Rally _ also known as the St. Patrick’s Day Weekend rally, at the CFSBD Derby Track and facility in Mike Kirby Park on March 15-and-16, 2025.

For the third consecutive year, the weekend also saw hand-crafted trophies, special awards and plaques courtesy of the Swinderman family from Ohio, being presented, to the delight of everyone.

The Special Awards went to Terry Lindsey, who has been a staple for many years in helping inspect, weigh in and check the starting line alignment for Sanford and the CFSBD, as well as making trips to Akron for the World finals, and Claire Holiday, who was ready to help anyone for any reason, not just her brother Charles in Stock and sister Isabella in Super Stock, despite not racing herself, for showing the most Sportmanship.

On the track, the winners were _ Joel Rizzo (2 wins), Charlie Holiday and Weston Claxton in Stock; Alexa Mello (3 wins) and Alicia Swinderman in Super Stock; and Mason Webb and Brianna Scallatino with two wins each in Masters.

With rally racing coming to an end, the City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department and Central Florida Soap Box Derby will turn its attention to its two events that will qualify racers for the 87th Annual First Energy All-American Soap Box Derby at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio, Sunday, July 13-through-Saturday, July 19.

First up is the 12th Annual Super Kids Derby, for children with a medically diagnosed disability, on Saturday, April 19, and the 36th All-American Soap Box Derby Local Race on Saturday, May 17, that will decide the three Sanford Champions, at Mike Kirby Park.

Everyone, especially interested non-racers, is invited to attend any of the family friendly events, free of charge, at the beautiful Mike Kirby Park facility located on the west side of Sanford on Oregon Avenue, north off of CR-46A (25th Street/H. E. Thomas Parkway) or east off of Rinehart Road, just south of the GreeneWay entry. The track is East of Bentley Elementary School.
