Blackout Poetry

Tuesday, April 8, 5:30 p.m., North Branch Library, 150 N. Palmetto Avenue, Sanford. April is National Poetry Month, so try creating some poetry of your own! Blackout poetry is a low pressure, accessible writing exercise that can result in surprisingly meaningful art. Grab a marker, and a newspaper or unwanted book, and get ready to find a poem of your own not by writing words, but by erasing them. Supplies provided. Free. For adults.

 

Central Florida Spokes Luncheon

 Wednesday, April 9, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Heathrow Country Club. $32 cash or check. Flamingo Bingo fundraiser. There will be many prizes given out during the games. Jason Guy from Channel 2 will be the guest Bingo caller. For more info email [email protected]

 

Novels at Night Book Club

Fly Fishing Film Tour & Expo

Friday, April 11, 12 to 7 p.m., Decision Tactical, Sanford. The event will include three ticketed movie showings inside, providing an opportunity for the fly fishing community to come together, share stories, and experience the best of the sport's cinematic world. Outside, several vendors will be present, with the potential for some vendors to bring in boats and other relevant equipment. The event aims to highlight the passion & culture of the fly fishing community while showcasing the sport through films and merchandise.

Tertulia Cuatro Gatos

Saturday, April 12, 2 to 4 p.m., North Branch Library, 150 N. Palmetto Ave., Sanford.  Join the Tertulia & participate in talks about literature, art, music, culture & history. Museum of Geneva 

History

Fish Winter Springs

Registration opens April 14, 8 a.m. Event is Saturday, May 3, 7 to 9 a.m., Central Winds Park, Winter Springs. Enjoy a morning of fishing fun with the family. Bring your child to experience the leisure of fishing and learn how to cast, bait the hook & the safety of outdoors. 

 

Newcomers Spring  Fashion Show/Luncheon

Thursday, April 17, 11:30 a.m., Heathrow Country Club, 1200 Bridgewater Drive, in Lake Mary. Newcomers of Central Florida  annual spring fashion show luncheon. Newcomers members will serve as models and stroll around the venue while wearing a variety of the latest spring styles and accessories from Dillard's department store in Oviedo. Dillard's Ready-to-Wear Sales Manager Kierstin Balbi will be on hand at the luncheon to provide expert commentary and styling tips for the "By the Beautiful Sea"-themed event. Festive atmosphere, luncheon tables will feature eye-catching nautical centerpieces, given away as door prizes. Sweet candy treats for all attendees. Luncheon tickets are priced at $30. Sanford Community Easter Sunrise Service

Sunday, April 20, 7 a.m., Ft. Mellon Park, Sanford. Several organizations are joining the Sanford Masons to host a Sunrise Service. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this one-hour morning service on the Riverwalk Easter morning. 

 

Earth Day Sunset Hike

Tuesday, April 22, (Earth Day), 7 to 8:30 p.m., Lake Harney Wilderness Area, Geneva. Celebrate Earth Day by marveling at Earth’s natural beauty during this special guided hike. Enjoy a walk through the beautiful trails of the Lake Harney Wilderness Area, end the evening on the observation deck with breathtaking views of the floodplain and the setting sun.
