ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

SANFORD ADULT SOFTBALL

   Here is this week’s schedule in the City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department Adult Softball Spring Season.

   The Semi-Co-Ed/Fun League on Wednesday has Throwbacks playing the doubleheader against Wet Spot at 6:30 p.m. and The West End Trading Company at 7:30 p.m. and Pat’s Liquor facing Fusion at 8:30 p.m.

   Everyone is invited to watch the games for free at Pinehurst Park on West 24th Street.

SSC BASEBALL

   The Seminole State College of Florida baseball team (23-18 overall, 11-13 Citrus Conference) won 2-of-3 games against St. Petersburg College, dropping a 9-7 decision to the Titans on the road on Thursday before sweeping a doubleheader, 6-5 and 18-10, on Saturday at Jack Pantelias Field.

   The Raiders were in Cocoa to tackle East Florida State on Tuesday and will return home to host Hillsborough Community College on Thursday at 2 p.m. SSC and HCC will meet up again on Saturday in Tampa for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.

ORLANDO VALKYRIES

    The Orlando Valkyries (12-9) fell to the Omaha Supernovas (15-5) in four sets in the series finale by set scores of 25-14, 17-25, 23-25 and 15-25 Saturday night. Both teams went 2-2 against each other, including 1-1 at home and on the road.

   With seven matches left in the regular season and a three-match lead for the final playoff spot, the Valkyries still control their own destiny despite the recent struggles.

   The Valkyries are back home to host the Grand Rapids Rise on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena on the Roku Channel and will remain at home to host the Atlanta Vibe on Saturday at 7 p.m. with the game being streamed on VBTV (https://tv.volleyballworld.com/). SUPER KIDS DERBY

   The City of Sanford Recreation Services Department and Central Florida Soap Box Derby will host its 12th Annual Super Kids Soap Box Derby on Saturday at the beautiful Mike Kirby Park.

   Check in will be at 8:30 a.m., with racing beginning at 9 a.m.

   The event will feature special dual control cars with experienced champion co-drivers running a Single Elimination Race, followed by a lunch and awards ceremony at approximately noon.

   Among the eligibility rules for the National Super Kids are:

   * Must have a medically diagnosed disability, which a physician is willing to document.

   * Must be at least seven (7) years of age prior to local special needs race (7-13).

   * May not exceed the weight limit of 185-pounds.

   * May not have reached their 19th birthday prior to the national race date of July 19.

   * May not be a current participant in ANY local or rally race division race for the All-American Soap Box Derby.

   The winner will earn a spot in the 20th Annual National Super Kid Classic that will be held during the 87th Annual First Energy All-American Soap Box Derby at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio, Sunday, July 13-through-Saturday, July 19.

   Everyone, especially interested non-racers, is invited to attend any of the family friendly events, free of charge, at the beautiful Derby Park facility located in Mike Kirby Park on the west side of Sanford on Oregon Avenue, north off of CR-46A (25th Street/H. E. Thomas Parkway) or east off of Rinehart Road, just south of the GreeneWay entry. The track is East of Bentley Elementary School.

SSC SOFTBALL

   The Seminole State College of Florida softball team (31-10, 11-8 Citrus Conference) had a good week, edging Santa Fe State, 4-3, in Gainesville on Tuesday, the second game was postponed by rain, and split a doubleheader with Florida SouthWestern, winning 7-5 and falling 6-1, at Courtney Miller Field on Thursday.

   The Raiders hosted Polk State College on Tuesday and will travel to Miami Dade College on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at noon.

ORLANDO CITY

   Orlando City SC (3-2-2, 11 points) and the Philadelphia Union (4-2-1, 13 points) played to a scoreless draw at Subaru Park on Saturday night. With the draw, the Lions are now unbeaten in their last four MLS regular season matches, three of which have come on the road.

   Next Match:

NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY

    New Smyrna Speedway will be hosting a Mod Mini Challenge Twin 25 on Saturday.

   The evening’s racing action will also feature Ashley Homes JAX Trucks, Bomber B and 602 Tour Modifieds.

   Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with Division Practice from 3 p.m.-to-5 p.m. Ticket booths and grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. Come early and get $5 off General Admission until 6 p.m. Qualifying/Heat Races are at 6 p.m., followed by Feature Racing at 7:30 p.m.

   Adult admission is $20 (reserved seating is $25, the top six (6) rows of the Main Grandstand) with all seniors (65+) and military (with valid ID for proof of age or Military affiliation) admitted for $18. Kids 12-17 are $5 (No Early Bird Discount). Kids 11 years of age and under are free of charge (MUST be accompanied by paying Adult to qualify for Free Admission). Pits - Members ($25), Non-Members ($35).

   The track is located at the corner of SR. 44 and CR 415, between New Smyrna, DeLand and Daytona.
