Due to an Algae bloom in the Little Econlockhatchee River, the City of Oviedo is cautioning residents to stay out of the river until the issue can be resolved.
Algae blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to humans and animals. Seminole County Emergency Management has sent out a reverse 9-1-1 call regarding the bloom, which affects the City of Oviedo, Seminole and Orange Counties. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, St. Johns Water Management, Seminole Department of Health, and Orange County have all been informed and the bloom is being investigated by all agencies.
The City of Oviedo will provide updates as they become available, meanwhile, residents are urged to avoid the river until further notice.
