CHAROTTE, NC — The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced its first ever honorees for the Coaches Legacy Awards presented by Nufabrx, which recognizes the all-time winningest coaches in NJCAA history. This is the first time in the near 90-year history of the NJCAA that coaches have been recognized in such a fashion by the Association.

Nearly 200 coaches across 28 different sports were nominated by the member colleges at which they coached.

And one of those to be honored is former Seminole State College of Florida Fastpitch Softball coach Courtney Miller, who retired after the 2024 season as the all-time winningest coach in Florida history.

“Being able to recognize our coaches, past and present, is a wonderful thing for the NJCAA, our member institutions, the coaches, and their families,” said Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President and CEO. “We look forward to having many of these coaches come together for us to celebrate their accomplishments and contributions to the NJCAA later this year.”

All honorees will be recognized at a special luncheon on Tuesday, June 17, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Hilton Charlotte University Place Hotel. The luncheon will precede the 2025 NJCAA Hall of Fame and Awards event, scheduled for later that day.

Miller, who was inducted into the Seminole County Sports Hall of Fame in 2023 and the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Softball Hall of Fame in 2024, retired last year after 30 years at the hem of the Raiders as the overall third winningest coach in the NJCAA and first in NJCAA Division One with 1170 wins. In 2023, she reached a coaching milestone when she earned her 1200th career college win on April 26 in a 11-1 victory over Daytona State College. Her career coaching record stands at 1254-708 for a .639 winning percentage.

A native of Jasper, Missouri, Miller attended and played softball at Crowder Community College and Missouri State University (formerly known as Southwest Missouri State). She began her coaching career as a softball graduate assistant at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. In 1991, Miller was named head coach and guided the team to the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament and a Top 10 final NCAA DII ranking.

In May 1994, Miller established the Seminole State College of Florida fastpitch softball program and led the Raiders to an FCSAA State title in 2012 and eighth-place finish in the NJCAA national tournament. That year, she was also named the FCSAA Coach of the year.

In 2017, the program set a new school record with 53 wins and captured the Mid-Florida Conference title. Miller was also named the MFC Coach of the Year.

Miller served as the Mid Florida Conference Softball Chair for 22 years, and also served as the NJCAA All-American representative for three terms.

Miller, who also had the softball complex at SSC named after her, remains on the Seminole State College faculty as a professor in the Wellness and Health Department and an athletic adviser.
