Happy 99th Birthday - Sister Lizzie Maude Raines Campbell

Saturday, April 5 was a very perfect day to celebrate the 99th birthday of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Sister Lizzie Maude Raines Campbell.

Our mother was recognized at a Providence Missionary Baptist Church service in her honor with dedicated members, loving family and longtime friends! The service ended with a light meal, ice cream and cake served in the Fellowship Hall with hats and balloons distributed.

When asked about the day, she remarked, “Happy Birthday!”, with a bright smile! Unable to attend regular services as she once did, she was one of the most active members in years past! Deacon Carlton Edge made the statement, “Sister Campbell is enjoying us as much as we are loving her in Service this morning!” Friends and family brought cards, gifts and flowers.

As the oldest living Bookertown Community and church member,  Mrs. Lizzie Campbell is one of the authentic pioneers of the Bookertown Community, arriving in Sanford with her husband Nathan, during the early 1940s.  She gave birth and raised 6 children, along with raising 18 grands and great-grandchildren. She is and was one of the strongest women in the community as one of the first women to drive a vehicle as well as direct and supervise agricultural workers in the 1960s and 1970s. We love and cherish Sister Lizzie Campbell, as we begin preparations for 100 years, in April 2026.
