The City of Oviedo Police Department is mourning the loss of an officer who was involved in a single-vehicle crash Friday evening.
Officer Jimmy Serrano-Torres III was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Friday evening in the Lake Nona area. Officer Serrano died from his injuries at the scene. Orlando Police are conducting the accident investigation.
“Our department is heartbroken and devastated by the loss of Officer Serrano,” said Police Chief Dale Coleman. “He was not only an outstanding officer, but also a bright light in our community. Always professional and courteous, he earned the respect of his fellow officers and the citizens he served. He will be deeply missed.”
Officer Serrano-Torres was with the department since August 2021 and was a patrol officer.
He was 36 years old and is survived by his parents and siblings.
Funeral Services for Officer SerranoTorres will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Newcomer Funeral Home located at 3806 Howell Branch Road, Winter Park, FL 32792.
Viewing will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Space is limited, but the public is welcome.
Officer Serrano-Torres was a U.S. Army Veteran and his Veteran’s Memorial Vehicle will be placed in front of the Oviedo Police Department either late Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. It will also be parked in front of the Funeral Home for the services.
