City of DeBary Launches Mandatory Septennial Update to Comprehensive Plan

City of DeBary Launches Mandatory Septennial Update to Comprehensive Plan

The City of DeBary is kicking off the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan—a vital document that will guide the City’s growth, development, and land use decisions over the next 20 years. This update is part of a required cycle, as all municipalities and counties in Florida must review and revise their Comprehensive Plans every seven years under State law.

The Comprehensive Plan outlines policies and long-term strategies that reflect DeBary’s vision for the future, helping ensure the City grows in a thoughtful, sustainable, and community-centered way.

To support this effort, the City Council will host a series of public workshops over the next five months to gather community input and provide updates on the Plan’s development. The first of these workshops will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 5:30 PM at DeBary City Hall (16 Colomba Road).

This first workshop will provide an overview of the Comprehensive Plan process, a look back at DeBary’s history, and discussions on historic preservation and the state of the City’s environmental and natural resources. Volume I of the Plan—Data and Analysis—is currently being developed and will be the foundation for future policy discussions.

“The voices of our residents are essential to shaping the future of DeBary,” said Mayor Karen Chasez. “We encourage all community members to attend these workshops, learn more about the planning process, and share their thoughts and ideas.”

Residents will be able to share their comments at the workshops during public comments.

The city will be posting information about the process and meeting updates on its website at debary.org/DeBary45.
