Wicklow Way ends Bad JuJu streak

SANFORD — After extending its winning streak to four races on April 9, Rich Gailey and crew aboard Wicklow Way stepped up and dominated the LMSA Wednesday Malibu Rum Race, sponsored by Filomena's Pizzeria, on April 16, topping James Pompi and ZX by 3-minutes-and-43-seconds.

Of course, it might have helped that Bad JuJu decided to take the week off.

Jim White had directed Bad JuJu to its fourth straight club win on Wednesday, April 9, over Plan B, under Cannon Asdot, by a scant 18-seconds, with Show Me and Andy Forrest completing the podium.

This past Wednesday, Wicklow Way also won the Displacement Boat class in waltzing to victory over ZX, the multihull Boat winner, with Patti Miller piloting Black Jack Bill to third place.

After both races, all of the competitors and fans moved over to Filomena’s for an evening of awards and social time.

The LMSA has announced that it's time for the 37th running of the Trans-Monroe Regatta, sponsored by Laguna Marine Services!

So come out and test your navigation and sailing skill in this annual event hosted by the Lake Monroe Sailing Association in Sanford.

Every Spring, sailors from around the country converge on Lake Monroe to compete against each other in a circumnavigation of the lake. This is the Trans-Monroe!

This one day event is hosted by the Lake Monroe Sailing Association and is in honor of G.W. McVay. Bill McVay built the Victoria 18 in Debary and sold them at Strictly Sail (now USail), where today the Lake Monroe Sailing Association calls home.

Skippers meeting is at 10:30 a.m. Following the race, there will be a bar-b-que and awards on the Clubhouse lawn. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall, using Portsmouth ratings, with the winner receiving the Bill McVay perpetual trophy.
