HCA Florida Healthcare announced today that it has begun construction on the new $15 million HCA Florida Wekiwa Emergency as part of HCA Florida Healthcare’s continued expansion to serve the growing Central Florida region.
Slated to open in late 2025, the nearly 11,000 square-foot facility will serve Apopka and nearby communities.
Local officials as well as emergency services and business leaders joined leaders from HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital Friday to break ground for the new facility.
“HCA Florida Wekiwa Emergency is our latest expansion of access to high-quality emergency care in the Central Florida community,” said John Gerhold, chief executive officer of HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.
“HCA Florida Healthcare is committed to meeting the healthcare needs of our growing region and providing emergency care closer to home for residents of Apopka and surrounding communities,” he said.
HCA Florida Wekiwa Emergency will be a 24/7, full-service, state-of-the-art emergency room with board certified emergency medicine physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals ready to care for patients with the same capabilities as a main hospital emergency room.
The facility will feature 11 emergency exam rooms, computed tomography (CT) scan, digital X-ray, ultrasound, on-site laboratory services, and will be capable of caring for all ages, including children.
The freestanding ER is located at 2757 West Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, and will treat patients with all types of acute injuries and illnesses every day of the year. In addition, the facility will employ approximately 20 fulltime healthcare professionals.

HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital is located 3.6 miles east of I-4 between S.R. 46 and Highway 17-92 in Sanford. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency care at its main location as well as at HCA Florida Heathrow Emergency located at 4525 International Parkway in Sanford, HCA Florida Mount Dora Emergency located at 16831 US-441 in Eustis, and HCA Florida Casselberry Emergency, located at 2560 S US-Hwy 17-92 in Casselberry.
