City of Oviedo to Celebrate 100 Years with Grand Centennial Festival

Special to the Herald

The City of Oviedo is proud to celebrate 100 years of incorporation in Florida with a grand Centennial Celebration on Saturday, April 26, at Center Lake Park from 3 to 9:30 p.m.. This free exciting event will take visitors on a journey through time, highlighting Oviedo’s rich history and vibrant community spirit.

Guests can step into the past with “A Walk Through Time” inside the Oviedo Cultural Center, where the Oviedo Historical Society will showcase artifacts and photographs dating back to the city’s early days. From its roots in orange and celery farming to its formal incorporation in 1925 with just 800 residents, Oviedo’s story began after the Civil War when homesteaders settled along the shores of Lake Jesup.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 100 years of being a city,” said City Manager Bryan Cobb. “Oviedo has grown tremendously over the decades, especially in the 1980s, and remains a place where families and businesses thrive. Our community truly embodies our motto: Family Community, Endless Opportunity.”

The six-hour festival will feature an array of exciting activities, including:

• A 1970s-Themed Carnival – Free family-friendly games and attractions.

• Live Music Through the Decades – From golden oldies to today’s hits.

• Drinks Through the Decades – A selection of ten themed beverages (21+).

• Themed Vendors & Entertainment – Vendors dressed in styles from different eras.

• Slide Shows Displays - photos from contributors showing throughout the park and a 100 Years of Oviedo video display on an eight-foot video wall

• Fireworks & Laser Light Show – A spectacular finale starting at 9:30 p.m.

The media is welcome to attend. For more information, please contact Communications Manager Lisa McDonald at [email protected] or call/text 689-710-4568.
