SANFORD — An active April will come to an end for the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA) this week with three big events.
While racing and competition are always a crowd pleasing and attracting activity, and there are those with the monthly Sine Metu Jameson Irish Whiskey Race on Sunday and the Malibu Rum Race on Wednesday, the biggest event, as far as the LMSA is concerned, is Sunday’s Open House, with the public invited to check out everything the Club has to offer in hopes of signing up new members.
In the most recent on the water action, the LMSA held its monthly Members Club Race of the 2025 Members Club Race Series for the Hayden Trophy last Saturday with the Fisk Hayden captained Gen 4 winning both of the races contested. With it being Easter Weekend, only three boats made it onto the lake and then the middle of the three scheduled races was abandoned because of high winds making the course dangerous.
The regular Wednesday Malibu Rum Race sponsored by Filomena's Pizzeria attracted eight vessels and it was John Chamberlain on NacraNA claiming the Overall and Multihull Boat wins over Rich Gailey and Wicklow Way, which was also first place in Displacement Boat, and Bad JuJu under Jim White, which also won the Planing Boat division.
