Artists Are Needed to Mentor Students!

Contributed by Seminole County Art Commission

Think back to when you were just entering high school and all the unknowns….. Life became way more complex, and the realities of a different academic rigor, navigating your social life, extracurricular activities, and just general life started to become a lot to handle. You may or may not have had someone to help you navigate through those times, and for those that did not, you can appreciate the potential impact that a person like that could have made in your life.

Take Stock in Children is a program of the Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools. Take Stock offers deserving, low-income students a chance to escape the cycle of poverty through education. We offer our students college scholarships, caring volunteer mentors and hope for a better life. Students are selected in 8th grade and receive comprehensive services throughout high school and as they transition to college with a 2-year Florida Prepaid Scholarship. Weekly meetings with mentors, skill-building workshops and the support of a College Success Coach keep Take Stock in Children students on track for high school and college success. Every year, TSIC students graduate with a 2-year Florida Prepaid scholarship – funded by businesses, foundations and individuals – and move towards their career paths and the means to reverse their family’s cycle of poverty.

Take Stock in Children is looking for artists who may be willing to mentor a high school student who has an interest in potentially pursuing a career in the field of arts & culture. To learn more information, please reach out to Shannon Rininger (Take Stock in Children Program Supervisor) at 407-320-0301 or [email protected]
