Florida’s Pollinators Hike

Museum of Geneva History

There are 2 large rooms full of such things as local archaeological finds, pioneer crafts, Ft. Lane search team finds, family genealogical records, Civil War info., and a violano & Edison cylinder player (both play). Learn about the story of Geneva and the Lincoln Conspiracy. Buy T-shirts, caps, prints, and history books. Good for a group or individuals.

 

Eat Oviedo Challenge

Wednesday, May 21, 12 p.m., Capital Hot Chicken, 2200 Winter Springs Blvd., Oviedo. Join Oviedo Mayor Megan Sladek for lunch at one of Oviedo’s newest chicken restaurants. Bike Safety

Tuesday, May 13, 6 p.m., North Branch Library, 150 N. Palmetto Ave., Sanford. May is National Bicycle Safety Month. Speaker, Jackie Serrano, a certified bicycle safety specialist who has been with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office for over 12 years, will be discussing topics such as, understanding Florida's bicycle laws, the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet & key safety factors for riding a bicycle within the community. Sanford’s Ride to Freedom

Saturday, May 17, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Bicikleta Bike Shop will host “Sanford’s Ride to Freedom” in celebration of Florida’s Emancipation Day. This bike event will feature multiple route options—12, 28, 45 & 60-mile roundtrips—starting from Hopper Academy & will highlight Sanford’s historic Black communities, including Georgetown, Goldsboro, Midway & Bookertown. The event will serve as both a celebration of the city’s history & a fundraiser for the nonprofit.

 

Snakes of Florida Class

Saturday, May 17, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Geneva Wilderness Area/Ed and Imogene Yarborough Nature Center. Join local expert, Jessie Yates as she introduces and dispels some of the myths about these often-misunderstood cold-blooded residents! Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony

Monday, May 26, 9 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, Seminole Blvd., Sanford. The City of Sanford will host a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony in Veterans Memorial Park featuring patriotic music, guest speakers, and Heroes’ Avenue showcasing preserved military vehicles as well as vehicles from police, fire, and Sheriff Departments followed by the Ceremony.
