It was a big couple of days for the six remaining baseball and Lacrosse teams as the Regional Tournaments continued to wind down.
The four LAX teams will actually know if they are headed to the Final 4, and in fact, Seminole County will have at least one team in Naples as the Hagerty and Oviedo girls met in an inter-city battle for the Class 1A-Region 2 Championship last Friday, and the winner will advance to the State Championships.
Also still alive were both Lake Mary High squads, with the Rams girls hosting Bartram Trail on Friday and the two-time defending State Champion and undefeated Lake Mary boys hosting Winter Park on Saturday.
In baseball, Orangewood Christian swept its Class 1A-Region 2 3-game series with Saint Francis Catholic, 2-0, by the scores of 7-0 and 5-3, and travelled to Mount Dora Christian for at least the first two games on Monday and Tuesday (May 5 and 6). The winner-take-all game, if necessary, would be played in Maitland on Thursday (May 8).
Things were much more ‘iffy’ for Winter Springs in Class 5A-Region 2 and Hagerty in Class 7A-Region 1 as both teams opened their respective regional quarterfinals with wins on Wednesday, but both lost on Thursday, forcing a winner-take-all game in Saturday.
