SANFORD — With a severe thunderstorm brewing and moving over Lake Monroe from the Northwest, members of the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA) made a mad dash for the finish line and the safety of Marina Isle during last Wednesday (May 7) night’s combined monthly Ladies on the Lake Wednesday Night Series and weekly Wednesday Night Malibu Rum Race sponsored by Filomena’s Pizzeria.
In the end, it turned out to be one of the closest finishes overall in recent memory, with Diane Forrest piloting Show Me to a quadruple victory, first place in overall in the Rum Race and Displacement Boat and first place in the Ladies Series and Displacement Boat, by just 17-seconds over Jim White on Bad JuJu, which also claimed first place in Planing Boat, 21-seconds ahead of Wicklow Way, directed by Lisa Gailey, and 53-seconds better than the Patti Miller captained Fleur de Mer III.
In the Ladies on the Lake Series results, it was Forrest, Gailey and Miller making up the podium.
