While no Seminole County squad has claimed an FHSAA Spring Season State Championship as yet, this postseason has still proven to be an extremely positive one for local programs with a combined five teams reaching the Final 4 in Lacrosse and Baseball and six softball teams making the Sweet 16.
The Lake Mary High School boys lacrosse team failed to make it three state championships in a row as the Rams suffered defeat for the first time this season in the State Semifinals.
On the girls side in LAX, Hagerty also fell in the semifinals, while Lake Mary was edged in the State Championship Game.
In Baseball, Hagerty and Orangewood Christian pulled off upsets of the top-seeded team in their respective regionals, both getting walkoff wins in extra innings of the winner-take-all third game, with the Huskies winning Class 7A-Region 1 and the Rams claiming Class 1A-Region 2 to earn trips to the State Final 4 in Fort Myers this week.
In Softball, Lake Brantley, Hagerty, Lake Howell, Winter Springs, The Geneva School and The Master’s Academy all won their Regional Quarterfinals last week and were scheduled to play Regional Semifinals last night (Tuesday) with the winners advancing to the Regional Finals tomorrow (Thursday).
Seminole County is assured of at least one team reaching the Regional Championship Game as Geneva hosts TMA in the Class 1A-Region 2 Semifinal.
