The Central Florida Expressway (CFX) will shortly be making a decision on building a connector road between State Road 417 and the Orlando-Sanford International Airport.
The goal of this connector project is to provide direct access to the airport, meeting the growing demands from area residents to help alleviate traffic in the area.
After multiple studies the decision will be narrowed down to two options, Alignment 2; and Alignment 2a. Both routes, however, could negatively affect local neighborhoods and area wildlife. Residents have voiced concerns about impact on personal property, such as homes and land acres, as well as decisions to leave the area. A proposed alternate option of building an elevated highway along Lake Mary Boulevard to the airport entrance was considered costly by the expressway authority, ultimately leading them to pass down on the option.
Currently, CFX has posted a public survey on their main website, allowing the community to comment on the subject. The survey will be available online until May 30. Survey results, along with information gathered from two previously held public workshops on Jan. 14 and April 2 will culminate in a final hearing. An alignment route decision will be determined by July 2025.
