FinanceBuzz ranks Sanford among the best Florida cities to retire on a budget.
The online publication released a list in early April highlighting the nine best Florida cities to retire on a monthly budget of $2,000 or less. The goal was to guide retirees who “dream of spending their golden years under the Florida sun” but also want to afford housing costs.
Sanford came in seventh, just after Destin, with a median monthly mortgage of $1,926. The city was described as “known for its historic downtown area,” FinanceBuzz noted, “which is home to many boutiques, restaurants and antique stores for retirees to enjoy.”
Cape Coral and Port St. Lucie followed in eighth and ninth place, respectively.
The top-ranked city was Lakeland, where “residents can choose from 38 [lakes] to enjoy an array of outdoor activities from bird watching to kayaking.”
Next was Palm Bay, recommended for “retirees who dream of spending their golden years by the ocean.”
Rounding out the list were Punta Gorda, Jacksonville, Tampa and Destin, which placed sixth before Sanford.
