Seminole County football fans got the opportunity to see into the future when local football teams took part in Spring Games after a month of workouts.
And for the most part, fans had to be impressed as the squads displayed a lot of talent and were competitive in almost every game.
Seminole took a trip to the St. Augustine area and looked very good in doubling up host Bartram Trail, 28-14, led by new quarterback Jeysen Williams, who was 11-for-19 passing for 188 yards and also ran for 40 yards, including a touchdown.
The Fighting Seminoles showed off an improved running attack withDeshawn Watkins running for 110-yards and a touchdown and Jamar Buckner also running for a score.
The Tribe also got a defensive score when Brandon Sims returned an interception 60-yards for a touchdown.
Oviedo may have been the most impressive winner of the month as the Lions were able to ease past Ocoee, 34-26, despite playing without standout running back Brock Joyce and receiver Jordan Donahoo, who were out with injuries.
Johnnie Cobbs filled in for Joyce and ran for 120-yards and two touchdowns, while Bruck Slivinski and Emiliano Galarza both caught touchdown passes.
Other winning performances were turned in by Lyman, 16-7 over Wekiva, and Winter Springs, which kicked a 24-yard field goal as time expired to edge East River, 10-7.
While no scores were received, host Trinity Prep, which has struggled mightily over the past few years won two quarters and tied another in a Jamboree that included Orangewood Christian, Windermere Prep and Bronson.
Lake Howell also host a Jamboree and defeated Timber Creek, 14-6, and falling to Tavares, 12-7.
Another game with great interest had longtime powers Lake Brantley and DeLand squaring off and it turned into a score fest, with the Bulldogs outlasting the Patriots, 41-35.
The contest was the debut of Lake Brantley’s new Head Coach, Garrett Kruczek, and star quarterback Jackson Stecher, who was among a group of players who came to Altamonte Springs with Kruczek from 2-time defending Sunshine State Athletic Association State Champion The Master’s Academy.
Stecher, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound rising sophomore, threw for almost 400 yards and six touchdowns, one was called back on a penalty, with Davon Washington and Jacob McDonald catching two scoring throws each and running back Curtis Newberry taking a screen pass 75-yards to paydirt.
