SANFORD — A change to more Summer-like weather this past week didn’t slow down the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA) as the club was able to get in a couple of events.
Despite a big threat of afternoon thunderstorms that had an effect on the Florida Collegiate Summer League schedule just down the street, the group was able to make up the Sine Metu Jameson Irish Whiskey Race, sponsored by the Breezeway Restaurant, that was cancelled by inclement weather in late May and the regularly scheduled Wednesday Malibu Rum Race sponsored by Filomena's Pizzeria.
And it was Fleur de Mer III that led the way as the Displacement Boat claimed victory in both races, with a different captain at the helm in each event.
The Sunday Sine Metu race saw Patti Miller direct Fleur de Mer III to a victory by inches (4-seconds) over Bad JuJu under Jim White, which got first place in Planing Boat), while Show Me and Andy Forrest was a distant third in earning the final podium spot.
Wednesday’s Malibu Rum Race started under light winds, but a steady breeze would develop and it was Fleur de Mer III, this time under Olivier Fleury, zooming to the top and winning by a comfortable 2-minutes over Black Jack Bill, with Bill Holstein at the helm. White and Bad JuJu was another 2:30 back in third, but he again claimed the Planing Boat win.
