Letter to the Editor
As we prepare to celebrate Juneteenth, I want to share something powerful
born right here in Sanford. It’s a project called “We Been Here: Sanford’s Black Business & Culture Map.”
This community-built map highlights more than 30 Black-owned businesses,
historic landmarks, and cultural spaces across Sanford, including Goldsboro
and Georgetown. From Roni’s Restaurant to Hopper Academy, it honors both
legacy and everyday excellence.
The map was created by local residents through Shyne Wayv, a Sanford-based
creative agency owned by social media influencer and community advocate Danni Adams. It’s more than a directory it’s a tool for pride, visibility, and
economic support. We built this to help people explore, celebrate, and uplift
the places that have shaped our city for generations.
I invite Sanford residents to use it, share it, and stand behind it.
