SANFORD — The month of June continued to be a successful one for the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA) and it continued this past week with Wicklow Way and crew making news at the 2025 Catalina 22 Nationals and the club hosting the first Vudu scoring edition at the Wednesday night Rum Race.

Under Rich Gailey and the crew of Scott Marriott and Joseph Hogan, Wicklow Way raced to a 10th Place finish in the Gold Class and Third Place in Spinnaker Fleet on Lake Worth in Fort Worth, Texas, June 7-thru-12.

Back in Sanford on home water this past Wednesday (June 18), Wicklow Way raced to a fourth place finish overall and first in Displacement Boat in the Malibu Rum Vudu Race sponsored by Filomena's Pizzeria.

After several days, weeks in fact, of summer-like weather with storms moving through the area between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., it was a beautiful, breezy, rain-free evening on Lake Monroe for the Vudu edition of the Wednesday night Malibu race. A dozen boats hit the line at 6:25 p.m. in 13-to-16 knots of wind from the Southeast. Cats (Multihull Boat) ruled the night, with Terry Warren finishing first and John Chamberlin, on NacraNA, coming in second.

Bad JuJu, piloted by Jim White, completed the podium with a third place finish, while also claiming first place in Planing Boat.

During the awards ceremony and social time following the race, Imke Maring won the drawing for the Filomena's gift certificate.

The Vudu ratings tightened up the fleet's elapsed times but there weren't really any surprises in finishing positions. You still need to sail fast and smart to win.
