YMCA of Central Florida and the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida are partnering to provide free Safety Around Water classes to 20 children ages 5 to 12 who are facing homelessness.
This initiative is aimed at teaching essential swimming skills to children, promoting safety, and encouraging physical activity. Participants also receive free swim gear to ensure they are fully equipped for their lessons.

“Every child deserves access to life-saving water safety education.” said Kevin Bolding, president and CEO of the YMCA of Central Florida. “We are pleased to partner with the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida to help more kids learn to be safe in and around water, build confidence, and make new friends.”
The program is in its fourth year and consists of one class per week covering important water safety tips and fundamental water safety skills in the water.
“This partnership with the YMCA is a wonderful opportunity for the children in our community,” said Natasha Yeung, Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida Youth Program Supervisor. “Access to activities like swimming can make a significant difference in their lives, providing not just physical benefits but also emotional and social ones.”
