City of Oviedo Announces Ribbon Cutting for Riverside Recreation Center

The City of Oviedo is proud to announce the official ribbon cutting and reopening of the Riverside Recreation Center at Riverside Park took place recently with an open house that followed.

The community was invited to tour the newly rebuilt facility, meet staff and instructors, preview upcoming programs, visit vendor booths, enjoy refreshments, and enter a raffle for a free membership. Staff  also collected ideas for future programming for seniors.

The ribbon cutting commemorates the restoration of the center after Hurricane Ian heavily damaged it in September 2022. The facility sustained up to two feet of flood damage along with interior and exterior storm damage and required a complete rebuild. Renovations included the reconstruction of racquetball courts, new floors and walls throughout, updated air conditioning units, and restroom and office renovations. Construction was completed in April 2025, allowing staff to refresh, create and expand programs for children, adults, and seniors.

“This has been a long time coming, and we are thrilled to reopen this space for our community, especially for our seniors,” said Paul Belden, Oviedo Recreation and Parks Director. “We’ve heard over and over how much people missed coming here. We’re excited to welcome them back for all the amazing classes and programs they love.”

Riverside Park is located at 1600 Lockwood Blvd. in Oviedo.
