Sparks Fly
Sanford police officers and members of the Neighborhood Response Unit were dispatched to the area of Brookridge Trail and Victoria Glen Drive in Sanford on the night of Aug. 9, to locate a subject with a warrant from Maryland. According to investigators, the suspect, identified as Traevis Powell, had active warrants for two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault. When they found the car that was registered to Powell, they began surveillance at the residence. Shortly after, they observed the Hyundai driving through the neighborhood several times. Officers then attempted a traffic stop, but Powell refused to stop and drove through the complex gate in the wrong lane heading towards Sterling Pine Street. During the pursuit, an officer deployed stop sticks at Sterling Pine Street and Groveview Way, deflating two of the vehicle’s tires. Powell did not let that stop him; he continued eastbound, failing to stop at a stop sign and later running a steady red light at Hidden Lake Drive. Officers reported seeing sparks from the damaged tires before the vehicle came to a stop near West Lake Mary Boulevard and Live Oak Boulevard. Police conducted a felony stop, and Powell was handcuffed and transported to the Seminole County Jail. Powell was charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement with lights and sirens activated, in addition to the outstanding Maryland warrants. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
Looky Loo Gone Wrong
On August 10th, an officer responded to the area of Live Oak Boulevard and Sabal Palm Ct., Sanford, FL, about a disturbance. The officer observed two males fighting on the ground and secured the half-naked male in handcuffs. The victim provided a statement. She was bottle feeding her 5-month-old child while in the living room when she observed a white man, Robin Carr, in her backyard. He was walking back and forth between the living room window and the bedroom window. While she paced the house, she could see the rest of Robin’s body, which was completely nude, and observed Robin masturbating while looking at her and the child. Her boyfriend, Quintin Hare, then exited the residence and pursued Robin, eventually grabbing and taking him to the ground. The victim believed that as Quintin pursued Robin, she heard Robin say, “I want to fxxx him,” about the child. When asked, Robin stated he was in the backyard to look for a place to defecate. Robin stated he was not sure why he was in front of the windows and said he was not masturbating. Robin stated that “I’ll never do it again” and “it was an accident,” but did not elaborate. Robin was secured in handcuffs and transported to the HCA Lake Monroe Hospital for medical clearance before being transported to the Seminole County Jail.
Buzz Ball
On Friday, August 8, officers responded to a reported battery at Arbor Lake Apartments in Sanford. The victim, Charles Williams, advised that upon arriving home, he saw Patterson asleep on the couch and noticed empty “Buzz Ball” containers on the table and in the trash. He confronted her about drinking his beverages, and an argument began. William attempted to de-escalate by asking her to go to bed, but Annika Patterson refused and ran towards the front door. As Williams turned to walk away, Patterson threw a large purple water bottle at him from behind, striking the back left side of his head. Which ricocheted off him and struck the door, leaving a dent. Patterson stated she was asleep in bed when Williams woke her and told her to get out, or he would call the police. She claimed William then bit her for no reason. William denied biting Patterson, so the officer obtained bite impressions from both parties. The bite marks on Patterson’s forearms were perfectly aligned and symmetric, which is consistent with her dental pattern and inconsistent with any defensive struggle. According to police, Patterson hesitated and attempted to avoid answering when asked to consent to DNA swabs of the bite marks. While being transported to Orlando Health in Lake Mary, Fire Rescue personnel reported seeing her apply lotion to the marks and search online for “how to get rid of bite marks.” Once admitted to a room, Patterson was observed scrubbing the bite marks clean. Based on the physical evidence and her behavior, the officers determined Patterson to be the primary aggressor. She was arrested for domestic violence battery.
Swipe and Steal
Sanford police responded to a vehicle burglary report on August 7. The victim, Charles O’Neil, told officers he had returned home around 8 p.m. and left his wallet in his truck before taking his nightly walk. At about 8:55 p.m., he noticed the truck’s rear door was open and found that the interior had been rummaged through. O’Neil reported that two Fairwinds Credit Cards and about $3 in cash were missing. While on scene, officers noted a nearby call for a stolen vehicle from Grandview Ave., one street over from the burglary location. O’Neil’s neighbor provided surveillance footage showing an unknown male inside his vehicle between 8:32 and 8:45 p.m. Officers learned that the stolen vehicle was recovered at Vista Haven Apartments, where the driver, Malik Jackson, was taken into custody. At HCA Lake Monroe Hospital, officers interviewed Jackson, who was found in possession of the two bank cards. Jackson claimed he found them inside the stolen vehicle and would not explain his intent for taking them. Based on the evidence, officers determined there was probable cause to arrest Jackson for burglary of an unoccupied conveyance. He was transported to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility after receiving medical clearance.
