Folk Art under the Big Top

Saturday, Sept. 27, 6 to 8 p.m., Jeanine Taylor Folk Art, 211 E. 1st Street, Sanford. We’re perched at the start of a new season with a lot to look forward to on the horizon! Join us for a blockbuster show, Folk Art Under the Big Top. Our circus themed soiree will feature special guests Rick Kilby, Trent Manning, Melissa Menzer and LaVon Williams live in person! In addition, expect a fabulous circus banner by Butch Anthony, big top themed work by Michael Banks and a collection of authentic antique circus banners by Fred Johnson, Johnny Meah, and Jack Sigler. Critical Mass Sanford

Friday, Sept. 26, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Public 4 mile-ish bike ride, kid friendly, easy pace. Starts at Pedal Driven Co., 210 N. Park Avenue and ends at Deviant Wolfe Brewery, 121 W. 1st Street, Sanford.


 

Battle of the Bands 5K

Saturday, Sept. 27, 7:30 a.m., The 5K will feature high energy, live music for runners and walkers along a 3.1-mile flat route that starts and finishes at Casselberry’s Lake Concord Park, next to City Hall. All participants will receive a rockin' finisher medal, commemorative T-shirt and will have the opportunity to enjoy the post-race party where runners 21 and older can sample beer. Runners will also have the chance to vote in the “Battle of the Bands” competition for the best band along the race route. Overall winners and top three finalists in each age category will receive awards. After the race, there will be a Kids’ Run free to all children. The day begins at 7:30 a.m. with a 5K, then at 8:45 a.m. is the Kids’ Run and then 9 a.m. is the awards ceremony. Event proceeds benefit cultural arts organizations in Casselberry. Residents of Casselberry will be out supporting the runners and there will be prizes for the loudest cheering sections. Tracks and Scat Hike

Saturday, Sept. 27, 9 to 11 a.m., Geneva Wilderness Area in Geneva. Hike in search of nature’s clues. Discover how to identify wildlife signs & test your detective skills during this exploratory experience. SSAA Meeting

Saturday, Sept. 27, noon to 3 p.m., Seminole County Sheriff’s Department, Community Room, 100 Eslinger Way, Sanford.

Sanford Seminole Art Association meeting is free & open to the public. Light lunch available from noon to 1 p.m. to meet the artists. A brief business meeting will be followed  by a shared demonstration by Georgia Hershiser and Kathy Ulrich, members. Georgia will give information on fine art painting using colored pencils. Kathy will demonstrate Zentangle drawing techniques. There will be show and tell and a question and answer period.


 

Red Bull Tandem Rollercoaster

Saturday, Sept. 27, 12 to 4 p.m., Cranes Roost, Altamonte Springs. The Red Bull Tandem Rollercoaster is coming to the United States for the first time. Building on the success of Red Bull Stalen Ros in Europe, where thousands of spectators watched teams of two navigate a narrow obstacle course over water on custom tandem bicycles, Red Bull Tandem Rollercoaster is bringing the thrills to the U.S. Admission is free. History Family Movie Night: “Holiday” 

Tuesday, Sept. 30, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., North Branch Library, 150 N. Palmetto Ave., Sanford. Brigitte Stephenson, Sanford Museum Curator, will first speak about the movie, “Holiday” and about Henry Sanford’s grandchildren who the movie is based on. Then we will show the movie, “Holiday,” from 1938. This program will be part 2 of a 2-part Sanford history series.
