The DeBary Foundation recently held its Kickoff Celebration at the Gateway Center for the Arts to introduce residents to the newly appointed Board of Directors, hear the history of the foundation and invite public input on the Foundation’s future initiatives. All DeBary residents and visitors were encouraged to attend.
This interactive gathering provided attendees the opportunity to learn more about formation of the Foundation in June 2025, its mission, view an initial list of potential community improvement projects, and participate in shaping the direction of upcoming efforts. From enhancing local parks and supporting the arts to preserving DeBary’s unique history and honoring veterans, the Foundation is committed to community-driven development and inclusive planning.
“We want this Foundation to reflect the values and voices of DeBary,” said Kathy DeBisschop, Vice Chairman of the DeBary Foundation. Chairman Jim Old noted “This event was not only a chance to meet the new board members, but also an open forum for residents to share ideas, identify key priorities, and help us build a stronger, more connected city.”
Prior to the event, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held with the DeBary City Council and the Foundation Board of Directors to symbolize the independence of the Foundation. Conceived by the City, upon incorporation on June 25, 2025, the Foundation became a wholly independent Florida nonprofit.
The Foundation also kicked off its inaugural program, “The Bricks of Honor, Stories of Valor”, where the Foundation is offering for sale engraved bricks honoring active military, Veterans, and Gold Star families. Working in partnership with the City of DeBary, a new memorial plaza is planned for DeBary’s Memorial Park with a brick dedication ceremony scheduled for Presidents Day, 2026.
