Sanford’s story has always been one of connection and resilience. Founded in 1877 at the head of Lake Monroe, the city grew through the power of neighbors helping neighbors. This was a time where families and small merchants pooled resources to rebuild after fires, freezes, and hard times. That same “it takes a village” mindset still defines who we are, and it’s exactly what Village Connect seeks to revive in a modern way.

When founder Daisy Ramirez relocated from California to Central Florida, she faced a challenge familiar to many newcomers: finding trusted local professionals and small businesses she could count on. After frustrating experiences with online listings and out-of-area vendors, she began compiling her own list of reliable neighborhood resources. From that simple list grew a bold idea, to create a digital and in-person platform that makes it easy for residents and businesses to find and support one another.

Today, Village Connect stands as both a resource and a movement. Its mission is clear: to build thriving communities through connection, support, and innovation. What started as a local directory has evolved into community events, wellness retreats, business marketplaces, and even AI-powered tools that help entrepreneurs grow, automate, and collaborate.

One of its success stories came from a wellness provider in Sanford who was struggling to gain visibility. After being featured on the Village Connect platform, the business gained exposure, new clients, and valuable partnerships with other local providers. This was proof that connection creates opportunity.

For Ramirez and her team, Sanford’s mix of historic charm and entrepreneurial energy makes it fertile ground for collaboration. The city’s history teaches us that progress comes from partnership. Whether rebuilding after hardship or revitalizing downtown, Sanford thrives when its people and businesses work together. Village Connect continues that legacy, bridging the gap between local talent, innovation, and community wellness.

Looking ahead, Village Connect is expanding its Business Connectors program. It is currently focused on small business and wellness professionals to encourage networking, shared learning, and collective growth. It’s also launching the Village Marketplace, where residents can shop and book services directly from trusted small businesses.

And now, local entrepreneurs have a perfect opportunity to get involved.
