Temple Israel Welcomes Avid Readers to its Third Annual Book Fair

Temple Israel will hold its Third Annual Book Fair on Sunday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The dynamic event will offer thousands of new and gently-used books, audiobooks, DVDs, and other useful media for sale.

Daniel Wise, Chairperson of the Temple Israel Ways and Means Committee, is directing the event for the third consecutive year.

“A few years ago, Temple Israel’s Comptroller, Michael Danoff, suggested the idea of holding a book fair at our synagogue,” recalls Wise. “Since 2023, the event continues to expand every year, with new faces, more books, and additional fun activities for the public.”

The event is held annually at Temple Israel, located at 50 S Moss Road in Winter Springs.

New or gently-used softcover books are priced at $1 and hardcovers at $2. Guests may fill a grocery bag with books for $20; after 1:30 p.m., the full-bag price decreases to $10.

“We at Temple Israel are fortunate that so many people in our local communities support this event. People donate books in excellent condition, specifically for our Book Fair, all year round,” Wise states.

Book genres include Adult and Children’s Fiction and Non-Fiction, Thrillers/Mysteries/True Crime, and Biographies. Also for purchase will be Cookbooks, Health and Wellness books, and technical DIY manuals.

Featured additionally are large “coffee table books” spanning Art, Music, History, and Science. Recent New York Times Best Sellers and book club picks are ready for sale. Also offered is a special section of Jewish-themed interests including history, philosophy, and education.

Ways and Means Committee Member Emily Raij notes that “Since no public library exists in Winter Springs, we offer local readers an opportunity to access books and materials conveniently and affordably.”

The Kosher Corned Beef Sandwich Lunch, a crowd-pleaser, is available for preorder. Light refreshments and desserts will also be available for on-site purchase. The Fair again this year offers a 50/50 Raffle. Ample parking available.
