UCF MEN’S SOCCER DOMINATES NO. 11 GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Led by a trio of first-half goals, the UCF men’s soccer team (4-5-1, 2-2-0 in Sun Belt Conference) silenced the No. 11 Georgia Southern Eagles (8-2-1, 2-2 SBC), 3-0, Friday night at the UCF Soccer Complex to clinch the program’s first ranked win since its 2023 season-opener and its fourth victory of the 2025 campaign.
The winning effort not only represented the team’s first ranked win since it toppled No. 9 Clemson on the road Aug. 24, 2023, but also its first clean sheet against a ranked foe since UCF blanked No. 9 SMU, 2-0, March 13, 2021.
The Eagles mustered just five total shot attempts in the contest and just two shots on goal.
Offensively, goals by Joey Mueller, Lilian Ricol and Claudel N’goubou in the first 20 minutes made things easier against a stingy Georgia Southern defensive scheme that entered the evening with five clean sheets while surrendering just six total goals through its first 11 matches. The Eagles boasted the Sun Belt Conference’s top mark in goals-against average entering play Friday, yielding just 0.60 goals per game.
Ricol’s tally came early, in just the sixth minute of action, when he received a feed from Clarence Awoudor just inside the box and set an accurate strike past Eagles goalkeeper Nate Martinez.
Awoudor tallied his second assist of the match in helping N’goubou’s 15th-minute score, placing a long strong free shot on target that was mishandled by Martinez and the 6-foot-5-inch senior was positioned perfectly to clean up the rebound with a header right past Martinez.
Awoudor, the Sun Belt’s leader in total assists and assists per game, had his second consecutive multi-assist match, and fourth such showing of the season, and seventh game of his first 10 with at least one point. His nine total assists also represent a new single-season career high for the Saint-Lo, France native.
Mueller capped the scoring, his first of the season, and second of his career in the match’s 20th minute, cashing in on a Malick Thiaw pass from the lower right corner of the goalmouth.
Senior goalkeeper Juanvi Muñoz locked down his career-high fourth shutout of the season and his 11th career shutout with a pair of saves, including a highlight-reel diving stop with just under four minutes to play, and now sits just one clean sheet shy of matching Didier Mendard’s 12 (1989-93) for eighth on the program’s all-time list.

UCF VOLLEYBALL SPLITS HOME PAIR
Looking to bounce back in front of the home faithful, the UCF volleyball team dominated West Virginia across all three sets, sweeping the visitors (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) to jump back into the win column.
The Black and Gold (11-6, 2-4) succeeded on all fronts, holding the Mountaineers (13-4, 1-4), ranked 25th in the nation in hitting percentage entering the match, to a minimal 0.191 mark. The Knights produced an impressive hitting percentage of their own (0.341), led in large part by the efforts of Avah Armour’s 17 kills and six digs and 10 team aces from the service line.
The Knights tallied their most aces in a three-set match this season, landing 10 in the Mountaineers’ half. Freshman Sarah Mendoza led the charge with four aces, matching her career-high.
Abby Schomers bumped up 31 assists, securing the redshirt-junior her third match in four with 30 or more assists.
In front of a great crowd at The Venue last Thursday night, UCF went toe-to-toe with the nation’s 11th-ranked team, TCU, pushing the Horned Frogs to multiple tiebreaks. In the end, the visitors claimed the tight contest in the fourth (20-25, 25-27, 29-27, 22-25).
The Knights improved steadily throughout the match, slowly finding their footing and putting pressure on TCU (13-3, 4-1). UCF led in by at least three points in every set but the fourth, which they led by three after falling behind early.
Schomers put on a passing clinic, earning 45 of the team's total 50 assists. The whole team got involved in the attack as five players put up eight or more kills with Armour leading the charge with 18.
