UCF MEN’S SOCCER POSTS UNBEATEN WEEK

The UCF men’s soccer team (5-5-2, 2-2-1 in Sun Belt Conference) jumped out to an early first-half advantage and enjoyed another strong night from senior goalkeeper Juanvi Muñoz, but settled for a 1-1 draw against the Old Dominion Monarchs (5-4- 4, 1-2-2) in Norfolk, Virginia, Saturday evening.

Though the Black and Gold left the ODU Soccer Complex without a victory, the team has now gone unbeaten in each of its last four matches and has yielded one or fewer goals in five straight games.

UCF grabbed the early lead Saturday courtesy of senior Malick Thiaw’s fourth goal of the campaign, when the veteran midfielder took a feed from fellow senior Frederic Benedix and scored from just outside the six-yard box in the 14th minute of action.

The Monarchs then leveled the score in the 24th minute of play.

Muñoz was perfect throughout the remainder of the contest, making three more second-half saves while his team outshot the Monarchs 8-4 during the final 45 minutes, but a game-winner proved elusive.

Last Tuesday, with the added emotions that accompany the program’s senior night celebration each year, the Knights exploded for five goals that lived up to the sentiment produced by the pregame celebration.

After recognizing their 10-member senior class, the Black and Gold took the pitch and authored a dominant 5-1 victory in the final non-conference game of the season over the Bradley Braves at the UCF Soccer Complex.

The quintet of Lilian Ricol, Clarence Awoudor, Drew Hansen, Younes Boudinar and Thiaw each found the back of the net, led by Awoudor’s four-point night and three from both Thiaw and Ricol.

Awoudor, who entered the evening as the nation’s assist leader, recorded his second career four-point evening.

   Up Next:

UCF will look to return to the win column on its home pitch tonight (Wednesday) in a midweek matchup against the James Madison Dukes set for 7 p.m. from the UCF Soccer Complex. The Knights will be in Atlanta next Sunday to challenge Georgia State at the GSU Soccer Complex at 4 p.m. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+.

UCF VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT HOME

In another highly competitive Big 12 bout, the UCF volleyball team came up short in four sets to Arizona (26-24, 18-25, 25-20 and 25-17) Friday night at The Venue.

The Knights (11-7, 2-5 Big 12) played a close four sets, but the Wildcats (10-6, 3-3) proved to be too much as the pair of vibrant attacks exchanged blows. Another strong performance from bench players, particularly Fallon Stewart, kept the Black and Gold in contention before the Wildcats pulled away.

Avah Armour paced the Knights for the fifth consecutive match, tallying 15 kills, Stewart tallied seven kills, freshman Reese Moore set a career-high with her first double-digit dig performance, securing 10 on the night. She combined well with fellow first-year, Alexa Haley, who led the Knights with 14.

UCF boasted its eighth match this season with 10 or more blocks, as its defense continues to make strides. Across the squad’s last five contests, they’ve combined for 50 blocks.

   Up Next:

The Knights will go on the road to face Houston tonight (Wednesday) with the first serve set to be at 8 p.m., before heading back home to host Texas Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. at The Venue. All of the matches will be streamed by ESPN+.
