Family First Firm and Senior Resource Alliance Unite to Combat Senior Hunger Amid SNAP Uncertainty in Florida

As millions of Florida seniors and families face heightened food insecurity regarding the distribution of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for November, Family First Firm (FFF) and Senior Resource Alliance (SRA) are

stepping up to help. With critical support from Hyer Wellness, US Hunger, and HarvestTime International, a large-scale food distribution event will ensure local seniors and families don’t go hungry.

The community food distribution event will take place on Wednesday, November 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Northland Church in Longwood. Volunteers and partners will distribute food boxes and essential goods to seniors and families affected by potential

delays to SNAP.

“In times of need, it’s important for our community to come together,” said Karla Radka, President & CEO of Senior Resource Alliance. “Through this collaboration and the continued support of local leaders, we can work together to help alleviate food insecurities

among Central Floridians who need it the most.”

This initiative marks the first in a series of emergency response efforts being organized by Senior Resource Alliance and Family First to address the growing hunger crisis among older adults and families in the wake of the federal government shutdown.

Florida currently ranks fourth in the nation for SNAP enrollment, with nearly 3-million residents relying on the program for access to nutritious food. Locally, at least 13,353 seniors assessed for services by Senior Resource Alliance are SNAP beneficiaries.

“Most Florida seniors are on fixed incomes and cannot afford to wait for these benefits,” said Geoff Hoatson, CEO and Founding Attorney of Family First Firm. “We launched the Family First Firm Foundation with this exact type of work in mind, and we are honored

to stand up for families in this way.”

The partners are calling on the community to join the effort. Donations of canned goods, dry goods, boxed groceries, and volunteer time are urgently needed and deeply appreciated. Together, we can ensure that no senior or family goes hungry during this difficult

time.
