Seminole County Historical Society 4th Quarterly Meeting - Dr. Deborah Bauer to speak

The Seminole County Historical Society will be having its 4th Quarterly Meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025 at 7pm. It will be held in the IFAS Auditorium located at 250 Count Home Road, Sanford.

Please join us for an exciting talk by Dr. Deborah Bauer. Discover the Hidden Origins of Seminole County! Think Seminole County’s history began with pioneers and citrus groves? Think again.

Long before statehood—or even the American Revolution—this land was part of Britain’s 14th colony: East Florida.

Join us for a free history talk that uncovers this forgotten chapter: “Echoes of Empire: British East Florida and the Birth of Seminole County.” Presented by Dr. Deborah Bauer, Valencia College.

Explore how British imperial ambitions in the 1760s shaped the very ground we live on today. From the 1765 St. Johns River expedition to massive Crown land grants near Lake Monroe, Lake Jesup, and Lake Harney, these early maps and settlements reveal that Seminole County’s story is older—and more global—than most ever imagined.

Don’t miss this fascinating look at how our local roots connect to empire, revolution, and the birth of a nation.

Part of Seminole County’s 250th anniversary celebrations of the United States.

Light refreshments will be served. The talk is free, and open to the public!  The talk itself will last approximately 45-50 minutes with a brief Question and Answer session to be held after. All society members and friends are invited to attend. For more information, please call 407-665-2489 or visit http://www.seminolecountyhistoricalsociety.com/.

We hope to see you there!
