When life gives you lemons, save the animals!
Wee the People Preschool is back again with another round of lemonade for Seminole County.
On Friday, July 26, keep your eyes peeled for the impossible to miss bright yellow and while lemonade stand where Deanna Plyler and her Wee the People preschoolers will be serving lemonade from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
While donations are optional, all of the proceeds from the lemonade stand will go to Spay n Save Animal Clinic. Last year, Plyler said the students set a new record raising $671 and generated so much attention that the Sanford mayor stopped by.
“I was very excited and very proud that our mayor stopped by, and he said the lemonade was so delicious,” Plyler said.
The annual lemonade stand started about three years ago when Plyler noticed an increase in ferrel cats in the area. Compelled to make a difference in the community and in the animal’s lives, Plyler contacted Spay n Save. The clinic offered to put her on a grant to fix each cat for $15. Ever since, the partnership between the clinic and the preschool has lived on.
“I am just so excited every year to do this fundraiser for Spay n Save because they have my heart,” Plyler said. “I can’t say enough about this organization. Every penny goes to them.”
The partnership between the Spay n Save and Wee the People goes both ways. As the preschool raises money for the clinic, Spay n Save returned the favor by donating stuffed animals for the class treasure box.
Like Plyler, the preschoolers are just as excited to take on the lemonade stand project. The group of 4 and 5-year-olds have a hand in every step of the process, building and decorating the stand, making the lemonade with lemons donated by Plyler’s mother and serving the refreshments.
“It’s so good for the children as well to make the lemonade and know that they’re doing something good for the community,” Plyler said. “These are the children who will later be the teenagers who will be doing wonderful things in the community and then later be the adults who are doing wonderful things and contributing to charities.”
Plyler said the students are extra motivated this year because the Wee the People daycare program recently adopted a stray cat named Cleopatrick who quickly became the school’s unofficial mascot. Hanging out with Cleopatrick has encouraged the students to develop a new interest in helping the animals in their community.
Be sure to stop by and show your support while enjoying a sweet and sour treat on Friday, July 26.
“Come by Sanford and have some lemonade!” Plyler said.
